   Hello,

   I am using BlackHole Pro on my website. Some users around the world (specifically Canada and Indonesia) are triggering the blackhole when trying to visit the site and are being shown the banned Frontend Display message. Do you know what could be causing this and how I could fix it?

   Here is my robots.txt:

   User-agent: *
   Disallow: /wp-admin/
   Disallow: /trackback/
   Disallow: /xmlrpc.php
   Disallow: /blackhole/
   Disallow: /?blackhole
   Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
   Sitemap: https://example.com/sitemap.xml

     Glad to help. Here are some things to check/consider:

     • Caching plugins. Make sure any cache plugin is compatible with Blackhole.
     • If the visitors are getting blocked (i.e., shown the blocked message), then you can verify that they are on the block list (under Bad Bot Log). If they are on the block list, then the plugin is doing what it’s supposed to do and block them. If they are not on the block list, and still seeing the message, most likely your site is using some sort of caching mechanism.
     • If the visitors are getting warned (i.e., shown the warning message), then that should happen only at the Blackhole URL (e.g., if they follow the Blackhole link). If they are seeing the warning message anywhere other than the Blackhole URL, then there is a conflict or issue.

     Please understand that there is a difference between “blocked” and “warning” messages, as used in the previous information.

       Thanks for the quick reply, and for the advice about cache plugin. I tested and the problem was with Hyper Cache because there is no Late init feature. So I switched to a compatible cache plugin and everything works fine.

   Is it possible to Re-Name the blackhole? As bots get more sophisticated, you’d think they avoid terms like blackhole, honeytrap, honeypot, etc. But if you named it something like … credit-card-info … then you’d think you’d gather up a host of nefarious bots quickly.

     Yes with Blackhole Pro, you can customize the blackhole trigger link as desired. For complete infos, visit the “Blackhole Trigger” section in the plugin’s Help tab.
