Welcome! Thank you for your interest in Head Meta Pro. This post rounds up any frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the plugin.

Will this plugin slow down my site?

Head Meta Pro is designed to be super lightweight and fast, so it won’t slow down your site. It’s built with WordPress APIs and best practices for optimal functionality, performance, and security.

What is the difference between free version and pro?

Basically free version is one set of meta tags for all page views. Pro version lets you define tags for each type of page view (e.g., Home, Posts, Pages, CPTs, Archives, Search, 404, etc.). Also provides UI for adding single-post meta tags. Plus lots of shortcut variables to add dynamic bits of data like date, post title, taxonomy terms, archive names, and many others. And wait there’s more: Pro version lets you define meta for Facebook (Open Graph) and X (Twitter). For more comparison, check out the free-vs-pro table on the Head Meta Pro homepage.

How is this different/better than SEO plugins like Yoast or Rank Math?

Head Meta Pro focuses on adding meta and other tags to various WordPress page-views, like home page, single posts, pages, archives, search, 404 and more. So you get granular control of all meta tags. And it also includes meta tags for Facebook and X (Twitter). Not everyone uses Yoast or Rankmath, or any “SEO” plugin. Head Meta Pro is for people who want to add complete meta tags without all the bloat of a heavy “do-it-all” plugin. It’s just focused on meta and social tags, nothing else.

I still don’t understand, how is this better than Yoast or Rank Math?

Yoast, Rank Math, and other major “SEO” plugins have been locked in a feature war for years. To get an idea, compare file sizes:

  • Yoast = 13.4 MB
  • Rankmath = 9.6 MB
  • Head Meta Pro = 970 KB

Huge file sizes for Yoast, Rank Math (and others) make sense as “SEO” plugins provide many, many features. Head Meta Pro on the other hand is super lightweight (less than 1 MB!) and focuses exclusively on meta, link, and title tags. The difference is SCOPE. Analogy: if you want a giant motorhome that has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, shower, television, and a family-size bike rack, go with a full-featured SEO plugin like Yoast or Rankmath. Or if you don’t want/need all of that “stuff”, and just want something lightweight and fast like a Lamborghini, then Head Meta Pro is a better fit. They are different types of plugins, aimed at completely different audiences.

How does it improve security? How does it improve performance?

Head Meta Pro is not a “security” or “performance” plugin per se, but it is developed by someone (Jeff Starr) who has nearly 20 years focused in those areas. Ask anyone who knows, my plugins are lightweight, fast, and secure.

Is Head Meta Pro Multisite compatible?

Due to licensing restrictions, Head Meta Pro works on an individual, per-site basis. That means the plugin can be activated on any given site on a Multisite network, but network-wide activation is not supported at this time.

Can I define meta tags for each individual post?

Yes, Head Meta Pro provides a “Meta Tags” box on each “Edit Post” screen in the WordPress Admin Area. There you can define custom meta tags, Facebook tags, and X (Twitter) tags as desired. Here is a screenshot of the Meta Tags box.

Where can I find information about GDPR support?

We provide GDPR information for all of our pro plugins on our GDPR Support page.

What is the meaning of the different license names?

We offer plugin licenses with names like “Personal”, “Business”, “Advanced”, and “Developer”. These names are arbitrary and have nothing to do with the type of website that the license may be used on. For example, the Personal (1-site) license can be activated on any site, whether personal, business, or otherwise. Likewise, the Business (3-site) license can be activated on any site, whether personal, business, etc. So they’re just names for the licenses, not any sort of limitation.
