What do these two options do? I can’t seem to find any documentation anywhere.
The WP Login Page is where users can log into WordPress. The first option, when enabled, applies your Banhammer rules to the Login Page. Then the Admin Area, in WordPress is basically everything that you see under the URL,
/wp-admin/while you are logged in to WordPress. So the second option applies Banhammer’s rules to all of the admin-area pages as well.Jeff hello! Can you explain why someone would not check these two options?
There are many possible reasons. Biggest perhaps is to prevent interference with other login scripts, etc.
New guy! Been using the free version for a couple of weeks. Well over a hundred banned IP’s. Upgraded today to the Pro version and the tower is empty! I have the free version deactivated but have not deleted it yet. Is there a way to import, or somehow get, the banned IP’s from the free to the Pro version?
Hi Lance,
Glad to help.
The pro version should automatically import all Tower entries from free version.
There is a function in the main plugin class called
tower_update()that handles this.Of course it requires that 1) the free version is deactivated but not removed/uninstalled, and 2) the pro version is installed and activated via the WP Plugins screen. If either of those is not true, then the Tower IP addresses won’t be imported. For example if the free version was removed at any time, all of the Tower IPs would have been deleted.
I would try uninstalling pro, leave free version deactivated, and then try again by installing/activating pro via the Plugins screen.
Editor’s note: retro-posting this thread which was handled via email.
Am I missing something? I wanted to double check that I had not banned a customer that was having problems. Went to the tower and um, can not find any way to ‘search’ for an IP! I already have several hundred banned and really don’t want to have to scroll through looking for a particular entry every time. Is there no search option? I saw one in the Armory. Does that search just the Armory, or does it search both?
Tower search is on the list, just haven’t got there yet. I will double my efforts and try to get it added to the next version, which should be released before WordPress 6.8 drops next month. Until then, you can filter the list by IP address and other variables using the two menus at the top-right of the page, “Sort” and “Type”, can help to drill down a bit faster.
