Installing GA Pro is just like installing any other WordPress plugin. After downloading the plugin zip file, you basically have two options for installing: upload via FTP or use the built-in WP plugin uploader/installer. Here are the steps for either installation method.

Before Installing

Copy any settings that you want to save from the free version. Or take a screenshot. If you want to be extra cautious make sure you have a complete working backup of your WordPress site (database and files). This is just a safety precaution recommended in general, you know just in case something unexpected happens.

Install via Admin

To install GA Pro via the WP Admin Area:

  1. Make sure the free version of GA Google Analytics is not active
  2. Download the plugin zip file
  3. In the WP Admin Area, visit Plugins ▸ Add New ▸ Upload
  4. Select the plugin zip file from your computer and click “Install Now”
  5. Activate GA Pro from the WordPress Plugins screen
  6. Visit the GA Pro settings ▸ License tab to activate the license

Install via (S)FTP

To install GA Pro via (S)FTP:

  1. Make sure the free version of GA Google Analytics is not active
  2. Download and unzip the plugin directory, /ga-google-analytics-pro/
  3. Connect via FTP and upload to /wp-content/plugins/
  4. Activate GA Pro from the WordPress Plugins screen
  5. Visit the GA Pro settings ▸ License tab to activate the license
