REST Pro Tools gives you a wealth of tools for managing many aspects of the WP REST API. The plugin is designed with simplicity in mind, so setting up and getting started should be a breeze. Overview

REST Pro Tools is designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible. So everything should be clear and obvious. If anything does not make sense, please let us know. So with that in mind, here is a 10-second overview of how to get started:

  1. If installed, remove the free version of REST Pro Tools (aka Disable WP REST API)
  2. Install and activate the plugin
  3. Visit the plugin settings ▸ License tab to activate your license
  4. After activating your license, visit the other tabs to make use of the various tools and settings

Default Configuration

By default, the plugin does not deny access to any user or visitor; everyone has normal access provided by WordPress and any other plugins, etc. To deny access to all routes for all users, visit the “Priority Tools” tab. To deny access to specific routes and/or user roles, visit the “Manage Access” tab. REST Pro Tools gives you quick global control as well as precise granular control over all routes.

Pro Tip: To quickly disable all /users routes, visit the Priority Tools tab ▸ Disable User Routes. That will keep all user data private with a simple click. You can disable all REST API routes for all users or only visitors (unauthenticated users).

How to use the plugin

The main thing to understand is that everything is handled via the plugin settings screen. There are no shortcodes, template tags, or anything that happens outside of the plugin settings. So with that in mind, here is an overview of the REST Pro Tools settings:

  • Priority Tools — Main plugin options that take precedence over all other settings
  • Manage Access — Granular control over enabling or disabling each REST API route
  • REST Headers — Granular control over each REST API related header and function
  • Custom Fields — Lookup and add any post or user meta (custom fields) to REST API
  • Extra Data — One-click add extra data like post categories and taxonomy terms
  • More Tools — Root REST Route, REST API status, and check headers for any URL
  • License — Activate and deactivate your plugin license
  • Support — Links to get help and support
